Located at the end of Grant St. this building was named after Major James Grant. Grant under the Command of General John Forbes in 1758 was given permission by his commanding officer Colonel Henry Bouquet to do a pre-emptive attack on the Indian encampments outside of Fort Duquense. When he attacked however the Indians overwhelm himself and he suffered a great defeat. Days later John Forbes takes Fort Duquesne without a fight and names the area Pittsburgh. The aircraft warning beacon on the top of the building blinks P-I-T-T-S-B-U-R-G-H in Morse code. Radio station KDKA used to be located on the third floor. |
