The U.S. Steel Tower like many other buildings in Pittsburgh was built to show off its product. The outer facade of the building shows off U.S. Steel's Cor-Ten Steel. Most skyscrapers put some sort of decrotative facade over their steel interior. The U.S. Steel Tower wears its steel proudly on the outside. It is the tallest building in the City of Pittsburgh and can be seen peaking well above Mt. Washington from the South Hills. The 18 steel columns that support the building are filled with water and antifreeze to slow down flames in case of a fire. There used to be a restaurant at the top of the building called "Top of The Triangle", but it lost its lease and is no longer there. The U.S. Steel Tower was the finally building to be completed in Pittsburgh's first renaissance. |
